He Wished He Was a Real Woman, Part 2.
Joy knew that she was going to need a good job soon to pay for all these things she was buying, so she next set out for another clothes store. She wanted to get a couple of nice business suits, one with pants and one with a skirt. After she tried them on, though, she liked the ones with skirts so much better that she ended up buying two of them.
And of course, a new suit required accessories, a belt, a scarf, a hat, an umbrella, a new purse, and most of all, shoes. She didn't have nearly enough shoes, and she really wanted to buy every pair she saw. But she limited herself to five new pairs, sandals, flats, pumps, wedges, and an open-toe shoe with a small heel which seemed perfect for work.
She took her goodies home, along with the newspaper she bought. She looked through the help wanted ads and decided that she could get a job with her old company. They were hiring, needing skills very similar to what she used to do when she was Jeff. Wearing her nicest new suit, set off with carefully chosen accessories and just the right business-like amount of makeup, she marched in and filled out an application.
Frank Gulick, the personnel manager, glanced through it and directed her to sit in the interview room. A man came out who she recognized as the department manager. She thought it was funny that she knew so much about him, but he had no idea that she used to be Jeff. She would tailor her answers to match his expectations.
She would ace the interview. Of course, as Jeff, she never had to deal with Frank. He almost seemed to drool when he thought of this gorgeous woman working in his department. She just smiled sweetly and hoped to use her looks to help get her the job. She was surprised that the questions he asked weren't very hard or technical.
They were all high level and general, as if he didn't think she could really understand a hard job. In fact, with her blonde hair, many men had treated her as if she was dumb. She didn't like that very much, and it really bothered her that Frank was patronizing her like this. Finally, he looked up at her and smiled.
"My dear, we have an opening for you. You will be quite a set of assets to the company." "Excuse me?" she said. "What? You'll be quite an asset to the company. What's wrong with that?" She decided to let his slip go. She nodded. "Here is the salary you'll start at." He said, handing over a piece of paper to her. The paper had a number written on it.
She could not believe it. Four years ago, as Jeff, she had started on the job making $40,000 a year. With raises and bonus, Jeff was up to $55,000 each year, but now he was only offering her $35,000, less than Jeff had made four years ago. It was an insult. She had read where women made less money than men did for doing the same work, but she never believed it.
Now she saw it in person, and she was astonished. But what choice did she have? She needed the work. She could become a waitress, but she didn't think she could pull in that kind of money, so she was almost forced to take the job. She sweetly thanked him and asked when she would report for work. "Tomorrow morning, 8:00 sharp," he said.
He was almost drooling, thinking of working with this sweet, young goddess every day. He would win her over sooner or later. Joy went home and discovered that she had enough dirty clothes now that she needed to do the wash. She put in a load of whites, then went to turn on the television. She wanted to rest and relax after such a stressful day.
Her emotions were running high, and she had yelled at a bad driver on the road when she returned to her apartment. That wasn't like her at all. Her emotions were so wild that it was like she was on edge, ready to snap at any minute. She didn't like it, not one little bit. She turned to E! Entertainment TV and watched the celebrity bios they were running.
As she sat and relaxed, she suddenly felt something, pain, overwhelming pain. It went on for a few seconds, then it suddenly stopped. What the hell was that? A few minutes later, it hit again. It was like cramps. Oh, no. If she was having cramps, then that would mean she was having her period. That would explain the edginess and the high emotions, and the cramps, which hit her again.
She looked in the cabinet, but she didn't have anything to take for cramps. She didn't have any pads or tampons either. The last thing she wanted to do right now was to run out to the store, but she had no choice. Wave after wave of cramps hit her, and the pain felt like a knife going all the way through her back.
She gritted her teeth and fixed up her hair a little. She couldn't go out in public looking like that. As she got ready to head out the door, the washer buzzed. She took the clothes out, put them in the dryer, set it for 45 minutes, and headed to the store. Once at the pharmacy, she was shocked when she looked at the wall of products.
There were maxi pads, thin pads, pads with wings- Pads of all shapes and sizes, and there were box after box of tampons too. Ones with applicators, ones without. So many choices. She had no idea what she needed, so she pretended to comparison shop and watched what other women were buying. "I've been thinking of trying those," she said to a woman who picked up a box of tampons.
"I switched to these and I'd never go back," she replied. "I'd recommend them to a friend." "Sold," said Joy. At least being a woman, you could just talk to another woman, and the bonds of sisterhood were there. She smiled and was going to say thanks, but another wave of cramps hit her. "Oh, dear, are you cramping?"
said the woman. "Yes," she managed to reply weakly. "Come with me," she said. Joy followed her. The woman pulled a bottle of pills off the shelf. "I've been using these lately, and they really help," she said. "Oh, thank you so much. You are so kind," said Joy. "Don't mention it," said the woman, who went about her shopping.
Joy went to the counter and paid for the pills and the tampons. She got home as quickly as possible and followed the instructions to insert the tampon. She really hated the smell that was coming from her. She had no idea a period was like this at all, and she was going to have to go through this every month?
"I don't think so," she said. She would call the doctor first thing tomorrow and get on the pill. She knew that taking the right birth control pill would make her body think it was pregnant, and she wouldn't have a huge period every month. She took two of the pills and wanted to just go to sleep, but then she realized the wash was still in the dryer and needed to be put away.
She went in, opened the door, and was upset at what she saw. As a man, most of Jeff's clothes had been the kind that you just throw in the dryer for an hour and pull them out, but these women's clothes were so different. With the fabrics they were made from, most of her clothes were not meant for the dryer and especially not on the hot setting.
Some of the clothes shrunk and were way too small for her now. Some of them were frayed from the dryer cycle. She was in tears as she looked at the shape of her blouse. She didn't know enough to realize that some of them could be dried for a few minutes, but needed to be pulled out right away, or other ones needed to air-dry or dry clean only.
It was a hard lesson to learn. She would need to replace the things she ruined, and her, she was getting low on money. She cried herself to sleep. In the morning, the alarm clock went off at 7:00 AM. She jumped up, took a shower, dried her hair, put in a new tampon, took her Midol, put on her bra, panties, and pantyhose, picked out a nice skirt and top...
Styled her hair, put on her makeup and her perfume. Next, she went downstairs to get some breakfast, but when she looked at the clock it was 7:55. No way. How had it taken almost a whole hour just to get ready? As Jeff, she had been able to do it in 20 minutes, tops. But even rushing, it had taken an hour to get ready.
When she did arrive at work, the boss was upset. "The first day and you're late?" "I'm sorry, I didn't realize how long it would take with rush hour traffic," she fibbed. "All right, but don't let it happen again," he scolded. Joy was surprised the first day about a few things. She was prepared by now for being ogled by all the men with their wolfish expressions.
That didn't phase her anymore, but the women, some of them treated her kindly as she would expect, but some of them were downright mean. For example, the cute secretary. She seemed to think that Joy was muscling in to her turf, and was going to try to take away the man she was after. She was rude and mean to Joy.
The three men together looked at her over their shoulders and laughed amongst themselves. She remembered their faces for future reference. Another incident happened when she went to get a desk assigned. "I'm sorry, miss, but the secretaries have to go to department 3J to get their assignments." "I'm not a secretary," she said, handing her credentials to him.
"Oh, sorry, miss. We don't get too many women in your field." He had assumed that just because she was a pretty woman, that she must be a secretary, as if women couldn't think or do any job they wanted to. And so it went. By the end of the day, Joy was even more upset at the way she had been treated. She went to see a doctor to get a prescription for birth control.
Because most regular doctors only worked 9:00 to 5:00, and she couldn't afford to take time off from work yet, she had to go to a women's clinic. By the time Joy went home, her emotions still high from her period, and collapsed on the couch. She started to cry. This was hard. She never imagined that being a woman would be like this.
She thought it would be all dressing up, laying at the beach, being pretty, and having fun. She didn't know if she could handle this, and it hadn't even been a full week. She regretted her wish at that moment. She couldn't do this. She began to cry. There was a knock at the door. She went to open it. In walked the woman from the supermarket.
"How do you know where I live?" asked Joy. As she looked at the woman, her face began to change. Joy gaped in amazement as the women's looks completely shifted, until she realized that she was staring at Harmony. "Harmony, it's you!" "Yes. I've been watching you, trying to help you." "You put me in a hard situation.
You're trying to show me all of the downside to being a woman, aren't you?" She said angrily. "No, I changed you as you wished. I've been trying to help you when I could. You are just going through the things that every woman has to deal with. You are no different from any other woman out there." "I'm sorry I ever wished I was a woman," said Joy, her head bowed down.
"That's too bad, because you're not going back," said Harmony. "It was a huge undertaking to bring you over to the feminine side, and I cannot bring you back. You are a woman now, and for the rest of your life. You had better get used to it." "No," said Joy. "Listen to me," said Harmony. Joy looked into her eyes. "You are a woman.
A woman, you. You must fully accept it. You must allow femininity to fill your soul. Once you truly accept your womanhood, you will find that your problems will diminish, and you will be able to enjoy life." "I don't understand. What more can I do?" "So far, you have focused on the superficial things about being a woman: clothes, makeup, shoes.
Yes, those are fun and good things, but they don't make you a woman. No, I am talking about inside you, your true emotions, your true inner female self. You must allow it to awaken and allow yourself to become her." "How can I do that?" Said Joy weakly. "Your female body has different urges than your old male body.
You must allow them to surface. Today, you saw a baby, but you felt nothing. You must allow your nurturing instinct to rise to the surface. When you saw the baby, you should have felt a pang inside, wanting to care for it, nurture it, love it, but you felt nothing." Joy nodded. "You saw many attractive men today, but not once did you look at any of them, scope them out, or allow yourself to feel the natural attraction between a man and a woman."
"I'm not ready for that," said Joy. "Yes, you are. Once you allow yourself to be attracted, your inner woman will be completely awoken. That is your mission. You must go out, find yourself a man." Harmony was morphing back into the woman who Joy had met in the store. She took her leave and walked out into the night.
Joy undressed and got ready for bed. She was frightened. She had never really thought about being a woman, but that was her mission now. If she didn't do it, she would be stuck in her current in-between state, where she was female in body but partly male in spirit. She didn't know if she could do it, but her emotions were too overwhelming, and the pain.
She needed to do something. Anything. She fell asleep frightened and vulnerable. It took Joy three days to work up the nerve to flirt with a guy at work. She was going to go after one really cute guy, but then she had a change of heart. When she had been Jeff, she had been just an ordinary, average guy, not ugly, but not handsome.
But she had been a very good person. She had known lots of men who the girls thought were handsome, but they were usually jerks, so she decided to find a nice, quiet guy instead. There was one such guy in the next department over. She made a point of saying hi when she walked by, but he was too shy to reply.
One day, she made an excuse to stop by his cubicle for work and talk to him a bit. That same day, she saw him in the lunchroom line and asked him if he'd like to talk. He, of course, was willing to be with such a beautiful woman, so they had lunch together. He was one of the few guys she had met, and he treated her like a person, not like a piece of meat.
She was surprised to find that she was becoming attracted to him. Once he got over his initial shyness around her, one day he asked her out to the movies. She accepted and had her first date. She loved being treated like a lady, having the door held open for her, being treated like she was something very special.
It was the first date, and he was very shy, so a peck on the cheek was all that they managed at the end of the evening. She actually found herself longing for more, but knew that it was best to hold back. She was immersed in feminine ways by now, and thoughts of having ever been a man were starting to fade from her pretty head.
She had fully accepted her fate and had allowed her feminine self to shine through. Every thought, every movement, every emotion were purely feminine now. Femininity flowed around her, over her, and through her. She was completely a woman through and through. Harmony had actually fibbed a little. It was the acceptance and preparations that did it.
Joy was in love, a happy, healthy, truly feminine being, forever a woman. The end.
